2025 Calibration Day and Chili Cookoff October 11, 2025
The Greater Kanawha Valley Chapter of the West Virginia Society of Professional Surveyors (WVSPS) will be hosting the 2025 Chili and Calibrate Day at the RC Byrd Locks and Dam picnic area beginning at 8:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025.
This year’s event is taking a different approach to high accuracy surveying by focusing on checking and calibrating field equipment such as rods, tribraches and levels. Information on the RC Byrd NGS Calibration Baseline will be available the day of the event.
Events of the 2025 Calibration Day and Chili Cookoff are as follows:
- Chili Cookoff – Bring your best entry for a chance at wonderful gifts and prizes to the top entry for lunch.
- Rod Calibration – Bring your survey rods. The team will have two different varieties of rod adjustment tools available to help users learn how to utilize these tools to calibrate their own equipment.
- Tribrach Calibration – Bring your Tribraches. The team will have the tools and setup on site to help users learn how to check their tribraches in the field and how to use the tools available to make adjustments to the levels and optical plummets.
- GPS Testing – USACE has established a high accuracy traverse through a wooded portion of the site. Bring your GPS base and rovers and test your GPS/GNSS accuracy in a wooded, tree covered environment.
- Level Pegging – The team will have an optimal level check and adjustment baseline set up for users who wish to check the accuracy of their optical levels.
There will be up to 8 PDH available, and all activities are FREE! PDHs will be claimed and awarded based on time participating in the event.
When: 8:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025. Starting at 8:00 AM, but can join whenever!
