Precise Survey Measurements: Stairway to Heaven or Pathway to Purgatory? (4 PDH)

Advances in measurement technology now allow moderately trained personnel to obtain increasingly precise positions. This provides a valuable tool, but is also fraught with peril. When boundary law concepts are ignored and boundary determinations made with undue reliance on precise measurement, the result may be unnecessary conflict and fruitless litigation. Don will explore the use and misuse of the wonderful tool of “measurement”.
The Report of Survey: A Narrative Approach (4 PDH)

Although many surveyors hate to write, preparing a report of survey need not be a daunting task. Brilliance isn’t required, merely diligence. More important than great writing talent is a willingness to do enough work to create a simple readable document. Just like learning to research or run a surveying instrument, the more you do it the easier writing becomes.
Introduction to Private Easements and Practical Location (2 PDH)

Frank Brown’s Deadly Dream: Robert B. Stanton and the Denver, Colorado Cañon & Pacific Railroad Survey

In 1889, railroad company president Frank M. Brown, Engineer Robert Brewster Stanton, and several workers embarked upon a railroad survey down the Colorado River to the Gulf of California in Mexico. This was the first major exploration of Grand Canyon since Major John Wesley Powell’s expeditions in 1869 and 1871-72.
