He served on the West Virginia Board of Examiners of Land Surveyors and was a great contributor to West Virginia State Code that regulates surveying. Highly opinionated and unrelenting in his rigorous approach to land surveying, F. Henry’s principles and methodology will be followed for years to come.

This volume (originally published in 1970) is a true reference work often used as a college textbook for compass surveying. Other than the outdated economic formulas, this book is extremely valuable in understand the basis of hundreds of early legal descriptions still being used for modern deed conveyances. Compass Land Surveying is a must-have for all West Virginia licensed surveyors, as well as for anyone aspiring to become licensed.
