Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the collection of data relating to telecom sites
  • Requires judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation of survey techniques, procedures, criteria, and design solutions unique to the site and possible obstacles
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues on the fly
  • Adhere to adopted surveying practices and TEP standards
  • Assist in the preparation AutoCAD drawings from GIS and/or site survey and the collection of site research – online or in person
  • Work with multiple projects and deadlines
  • Keep updated time and expense reports

Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some field work might be required as needed and would require the ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds.  Could involve periods of exposure to weather elements (heat, cold, sun, rain, snow) as necessary.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional environment in the field. This role routinely uses standard surveying equipment and involves travel including extended overnight stays out of town.

DUTIES

  • Ability to understand and clearly communicate project requirements on all types of field surveys performed by LDG
  • Develop and execute a plan to complete surveying projects on time and within budget while exercising discretion regarding proper surveying procedures for the task assigned
  • Ability to perform basic record research
  • Ensure field conditions are clearly documented through the use of concise notes and sketches and supplemented with photographs and daily log
  • Ensure regular maintenance and calibration of all surveying equipment takes place – this includes regular vehicle maintenance
  • Lead, manage, and direct a survey crew.
  • Due to the nature of the work, individuals must be able to perform job duties in various terrain, climates and weather conditions and must be willing to travel to field sites locally and out of the area.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School or equivalent education required.
  • Associates degree in Surveying or Surveying Technology preferred
  • Survey in Training (SIT) License preferred or the ability to obtain credentials
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience required with a wide diversity of survey projects
  • One (1) year of experience with survey support during the construction of industrial and non-residential facilities, bridges and/or highways is desired.
  • Experience using and operating a variety of survey equipment including Conventional Total Stations, Auto Levels, Robotic Total Stations, and Survey Grade and Mapping Grade GPS units
  • FAA Chapter 107 sUAV pilot certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification
  • AutoCAD Software experience a plus
  • Must be able to read and understand maps and plans
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and have a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to travel, including extended overnight stays, as the job requires.

Position Title: Survey Crew Chief

Description/Qualifications/Requirements: As a Survey Crew Chief for Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC), you will lead a survey field crew performing work on topographic and boundary surveys, and construction stakeouts. You will perform sub-professional land survey work using routine surveying practices and equipment. You will lead work on land survey projects, operate instrumentation, clear brush, drive stakes, hold chains or rods, take simple notes, make minor sketches. You will also be responsible for utilizing various surveying programs to gather, retrieve and interpret important data, and performing minor computations as required.

  • 5 to 15 years of related survey experience;
  • Familiarity with GPS devices, survey and drafting technologies, data collectors and/or Total Station preferred;
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment and possession of sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, extreme heat and rainfall; and
  • Valid Driver’s License.
