The WVSPS Survey Technician of the Year Award

Summary
Each year, the West Virginia Society of Professional Surveyors (WVSPS) may present one survey technician in the State of West Virginia with an award intended to recognize the survey technician’s commitment and dedication to the field of land surveying. This award shall be known as “The WVSPS Survey Technician of the Year Award”.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, nominees for the award must meet the following criteria:

1. The survey technician must be a present member of WVSPS
2. The survey technician must have been employed in the field of land surveying for a minimum of one year prior to nomination
3. The survey technician must have demonstrated competence in the practical elements of land surveying and must demonstrate a desire to continue his or her professional development in the field of land surveying
4. The survey technician must be nominated for the award by an active or retired professional surveyor who is a Class A or Class R member of the WVSPS in good standing. A detailed factual written biography must accompany the nomination.

Nomination Process
Any qualified Class A or Class R member of the WVSPS may nominate no more than one survey technician for the award in any calendar year. The nominations for each year’s award shall be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the WVSPS Scholarships and Awards Committee no later than December 31^st of the year immediately preceding the awards presentation.

Selection Process
The voting membership of the WVSPS Scholarships and Awards Committee shall review each submitted nomination, verify the nominee’s eligibility, and consider all supporting information. The committee membership shall then vote by private ballot to determine the recipient of the award. In the event of a tie vote, the current WVSPS President-Elect shall cast the tie-breaking vote. The Committee chairperson shall report the name of the winning nominee to the WVSPS Executive Director, who shall coordinate the presentation of the award at the subsequent WVSPS Convention.

Award Presentation
The WVSPS Survey Technician of the Year Award shall be presented to the recipient at the annual WVSPS Convention. The person who nominated the awardee shall be recognized, unless the nominating individual expresses to the Committee chairperson a desire to remain anonymous. The award shall consist of recognition at the annual Convention, a plaque, one year of free Affiliate membership in WVSPS, and such other prize(s) as the Committee and the Board of Directors may deem appropriate.

The WVSPS Future Surveyor Award

Summary
The West Virginia Society of Professional Surveyors (WVSPS) will present one land surveying student each year with an award intended to recognize the student’s commitment, dedication, and anticipated professional contributions to the field of land surveying. This award shall be known as “The WVSPS Future Surveyor Award”.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, nominees for the award must meet the following criteria:

1. The student must be enrolled in a surveying program at a West Virginia college or university.
2. The student must be in the final academic year of his or her degree program; i.e., the award will be presented during the Annual WVSPS Convention that occurs during the second semester of the student’s final academic year. A December graduation date will not disqualify a student from eligibility.
3. The student must have a cumulative institutional grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
4. The student must be nominated for the award by a faculty member at his or her academic institution.

Nomination Process
Nominations for each year’s WVSPS Future Surveyor Award shall be accepted from any tertiary educational institution located in West Virginia which maintains an academic degree program in the field of land surveying by the faculty/staff over said program. Each such educational institution shall be eligible to nominate one (1) candidate per year from among its eligible students. The nomination must be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the WVSPS Scholarships and Awards Committee no later than December 31^st of the year immediately preceding the award’s presentation.

Award Presentation
The WVSPS Future Surveyor Award shall be presented to the recipient at the annual WVSPS Convention, along with any incidental items or pecuniary consideration that may be authorized by the WVSPS Board of Directors.
